Back End Software Engineer
About The Position
Pointer Technologies is looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. A back end software engineer will be expected to design, develop, test, deploy, document, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements. These systems might include, but are not limited to, processing intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of large data sets, real-time systems, business management information systems, and systems which incorporate data repositories, data transport services, and application and systems development and monitoring. The ideal candidate will have a broad technical background, a solid understanding of software engineering concepts, and a desire to grow as a technical professional. This person is diligent, works well with others, inspired to learn, driven by mission and practices effective communication.
Requirements
- Experience using the Linux CLI
- Experience developing Bash scripts to automate manual processes
- Recent software development experience using back end languages and frameworks such as Java, Spring, and Maven
- Experience with CI/CD principles, methodologies, and tools such as GitLab CI
- Experience with Git Source Control System
- TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required
Nice To Haves
- Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) principles and automation tools including Ansible
- Experience with containerization principles and tools such as Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes
- Experience with message bus frameworks such as Kafka and Rabbit
- Experience with data-flow engineering with Apache Nifi
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite (JIRA, Confluence)
- Technical leadership experience
Responsibilities
- Be able to work as a part of a team as you design, develop, test, deploy, document, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements.
- Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and to document test results
- Utilize software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment
- Provide specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Open-Source Software (OSS) and/or Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) software in place of new development
- Perform requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components
