About The Position

Aperio Global is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to support a mission-critical system directly enabling operations. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in high-impact environments where reliability, performance, and security are non-negotiable. You’ll design and build backend services that operate at scale, integrate with complex systems via webhooks and APIs, and handle sensitive data with precision. Your work will directly support national-level protective and investigative missions. This is not a typical backend role. Your work will directly support real-world operations where software reliability and judgment matter. You’ll join a team trusted with systems that must work — every time.

Requirements

Top Secret Clearance
10+ years of software development experience with demonstrated Rust proficiency
Strong experience with PostgreSQL database design and optimization
Familiarity with Rust web frameworks (Axum, Actix Web, or similar)
Experience building and consuming webhook integrations
Comfortable with async Rust and the Tokio ecosystem
Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment

Nice To Haves

Experience in national security, law enforcement, or intelligence environments
Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
Experience working in regulated or high-security environments

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Rust
Build and manage webhook-driven integrations and event-based architectures
Develop and optimize PostgreSQL databases for reliability, performance, and security
Ensure systems meet mission-critical uptime, resilience, and data integrity requirements
Collaborate closely with government stakeholders, product owners, and other engineers
Support deployment and operations in a secure, hybrid environment
