About The Position

Rotating Machinery Services (RMS Inc.) is seeking an experienced Babbitt Bearing Technician to join our Houston operations team. This position specializes in the production of industrial bearings used in turbomachinery and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in precision craftsmanship, safety, and quality.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in babbitting or industrial bearing repair
High School Diploma or GED from accredited institution
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check.
Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage
While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift
Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.

RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.

Responsibilities

Perform babbitting (lining and relining) of industrial bearings using tin - and lead based-alloys
Prepare bearing shells by cleaning, tinning, and applying bonding agents
Pour, centrifugally cast, or static cast babbitt material into prepared shells
Machine, bore, and finish babbitted surfaces to tight tolerances using lathes and mills
Inspect bearings for wear, cracks, bonding issues, and dimensional accuracy
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and work orders
Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers)
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and material usage
Support troubleshooting and rebuild of large industrial bearings
Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping of shop equipment
Follow all safety and environmental procedures related to molten metals and machinery
Notify Quality and Production leadership of any non-conforming conditions
