About The Position

The Class B Lineman Transmission is a semi-skilled position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role requires working at various locations and may involve travel to other states based on customer demands.

Requirements

  • 3-year minimum of field experience
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE
  • Willing to work over-time when requested
  • Willingness to glove/work high voltage transmission lines
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized transmission work
  • Stringing overhead wire
  • Setting poles and anchors
  • Troubleshooting problems on transmission systems
  • Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order
  • Perform rigorous physical labor
  • Identify transmission primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
  • Be familiar with induced voltage
  • Understand all concepts of grounding procedures
  • Understand proper use of phasing sticks
  • Obtain knowledge of bare hand work 44KV and 100KV
  • Understand the requirements for proper line clearances
  • Identify wire sizes
  • Be proficient in Pole/Tower Climbing
  • Be proficient in all aspects of heaving lifting and rigging
  • Possess a working knowledge of grounding techniques
  • Safely set a pole
  • Operate wire tensioner equipment
  • Change pole framing and insulators with line energized from hooks or bucket
  • Be proficient at operation of sideloader, bucket and derrick
  • Be proficient in understanding and reading blueprints
  • Understand equipment set up and grounding
  • Work at heights and/or confined spaces
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover up
  • Check voltage on transformers
  • Clip in transmission conductor
  • Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so
  • Understand grounding procedures
  • Understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks
  • Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser
  • Understand minimum approach distance
  • Understand flag and tag procedures
  • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape
  • Effectively conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing
  • Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers
  • Properly inspect rubber goods, cover and PPE
  • Work outside, frequently in inclement weather
  • Perform all other related work as required to complete the job
