About The Position

As a Program Supervisor, you’ll be the driving force behind our Before & After School Enrichment and Camp programs for kids in grades K–5. This is a year-round leadership role where no two days look the same—one minute you’re coaching staff, the next you’re helping plan an epic camp activity or connecting with families. You’ll lead an energetic team, ensure high-quality programming, and help create experiences that build confidence, teamwork, leadership, and joy in every child we serve.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth, camps, or school-age programs
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A passion for mentoring staff and making a difference in kids’ lives
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities (and still keep your sense of humor!)
  • Minimum two years related experience working with Elementary Aged Children is required.
  • Minimum age of 21 years or older.
  • Must be able to get quickly to various school locations throughout Whatcom County with personal transportation or YMCA van certification required.
  • Ability to perform under deadlines, multi-task, management & group leader skills within a team atmosphere.
  • Have a firm working knowledge of child development, behavior management, positive conflict resolution and social emotional learning.
  • Ability to model YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty.
  • Within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; TB test; MERIT background check, provide MMR vaccine records, Food Handler Permit.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • 30 Hour STARS Basic Training required; within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic computer knowledge including but not limited to Microsoft programs, Google, etc.
  • Attend continuing education training as assigned by Director of School Age & Camps Programs for quality program enhancement.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities including but not limited to swimming, rockwall climbing, van driving, etc.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk for multiple hours.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50-100 pounds (i.e. food delivery packages, supply shipments, etc.).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of licensing and safety standards is a plus
  • Two years experience supervising others, preferred.
  • Minimum 30 quarter credit units in Recreation, Education or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Inspire Guide and support Site Coordinators and Program Assistants through regular site visits
  • Serve as a Licensed Summer Camp Supervisor and step in as Camp Director when needed
  • Build a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
  • Oversee curriculum, lesson plans, and fun, engaging activities
  • Help run programs year-round—including school days, summer camp, and those unexpected snow days
  • Jump in when needed to keep programs running smoothly and within ratios
  • Help recruit, hire, train, and schedule staff and volunteers
  • Coach and develop staff through feedback and professional growth opportunities
  • Be a friendly, trusted point of contact for families
  • Partner with schools, PTAs, and community organizations
  • Plan events that bring families together and strengthen connections
  • Ensure safe, clean, and welcoming program environments
  • Follow all licensing, safety, and YMCA policies
  • Uphold youth protection standards and mandated reporting requirements
  • Support YMCA initiatives like HEPA standards and fundraising campaigns
  • Collaborate across teams to continuously improve programs
  • Pitch in wherever needed—because that’s what teamwork is all about
