Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer, the AVP for Philanthropy is a driven fundraiser with deep experience in major and principal gifts and an understanding of complex organizations. The AVP builds and leads fundraising strategy for major gifts and principal gifts for Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and for Virtua Health's tertiary service lines, including heart, neurosciences, surgery, orthopedics, transplant and oncology. The AVP leads Virtua Health's physician and clinician engagement program and provides training, guidance and mentorship to a team of major gift officers to enable their success in pursuing and achieving individual, service line, site-specific and department goals in physician engagement and grateful patient philanthropy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible fundraising experience, including management of individuals, programs and day-to-day operations.
  • Experience in complex academic healthcare organizations is preferred.
  • Substantial, proven experience in all aspects of individual giving, especially integrating strategy across the sustained, major, planned and principal gift spectrum.
  • Demonstrated record of success in and enthusiasm for soliciting and closing six, seven and eight-figure gift commitments.
  • A visible leader with the ability and willingness to be integral in all major initiatives, and to work diligently to position philanthropy prominently at Virtua Health.
  • A highly-motivated, critical-thinker who is able to establish and focus on priorities, quickly sense what will help or impede progress, move effectively toward identifying and removing barriers to performance, and keep projects and tasks on track.
  • An inspiring leader who is able to build relationships with diverse constituencies and has a work style characterized by maturity, integrity and honesty.
  • A superb communicator with excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • An independent thinker who can present a balanced analysis, has solid influencing skills and is capable of building consensus while engendering trust, confidence and credibility.
  • Ability to interact effectively across all levels of Virtua Health, including: executive leadership, staff, physicians, trustees, donors, patients and friends.
  • Comfort with ambiguity while remaining able to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities and projects in a dynamic organization.
  • Flawless level of discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Some evening and weekend work is required, as well as occasional travel.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and leads fundraising strategy for major gifts and principal gifts for Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
  • Manages a portfolio of 75+ prospects capable of making major (five-figure), leadership (six-figure) and principal (seven to eight-figure) philanthropic gifts.
  • Creates strategic cultivation and recognition experiences for donors and prospective donors as well as engagement opportunities to expand Virtua Health's donor base.
  • Stewards assigned donors, including pledge collection and management of funds to ensure appropriate spending and communication to donors.
  • Leads Virtua Health's physician and clinician engagement program for tertiary service lines, including heart, neurosciences, surgery, orthopedics, transplant and oncology.
  • Provides training, guidance and mentorship to a team of major gift officers to enable their success in pursuing and achieving individual, service line, site-specific and department goals in physician engagement and grateful patient philanthropy.
  • Works with Virtua Health Foundation trustees, Virtua- Lourdes Philanthropy Committee members and other philanthropy champions to broaden and deepen philanthropic support of Virtua Health.
  • Creates strategies and partners with colleagues, Virtua leaders, trustees, volunteers and clinicians to fulfill campaign goals.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with SVP and Chief Philanthropy Officer to develop the strategic messaging, impact narrative and overall campaign framework for Virtua Lourdes, Virtua's tertiary service lines, and other fundraising initiatives.
