Avionics Manufacturing Engineer

AstrolabHawthorne, CA
$100,000 - $150,000

About The Position

Venturi Astrolab, Inc. (Astrolab) is pioneering new ways to explore and operate on distant planetary bodies. We are singularly focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend and enhance humanity’s presence in the solar system. We are seeking motivated, creative, and exceptional people to join our world-class team. The Avionics Manufacturing Engineering team owns the end-to-end manufacturing of high-reliability avionics hardware. This includes wire harness build and test, PCBA production, electromechanical assembly, environmental testing, and systems integration. You will work closely with design engineering, production, supply chain, and quality to advance product design and develop production capabilities. You will drive design for manufacturability, support engineering decisions for flight hardware, and champion continuous improvement for our products, processes, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field OR a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 1+ years of experience in design, manufacturing, and/or production of mechanical or electrical hardware systems (internship and project experience qualifies).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work across teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of professional experience in design, manufacturing, and/or production of high-reliability mechanical or electrical hardware systems.
  • Experience reviewing designs for manufacturability and testability.
  • Experience with eCAD or mCAD software tools such as Altium, NX, or SolidWorks. Working knowledge of GD&T and drawing reviews.
  • Experience designing and using custom tooling or test fixtures.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity with circuit analysis, test plan development, and troubleshooting of electrical or electromechanical hardware failures.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Production Ownership: Own fabrication, assembly, and test for high-reliability avionics hardware. Support part production and develop manufacturing processes that improve quality, yield, and cost.
  • Collaboration: Bridge the gap between design engineering, production, supply chain, and quality to deliver reliable hardware on tight schedules.
  • Design Feedback (DFM/DFX): Review designs and provide clear, actionable feedback to improve manufacturability, testability, and reliability. Participate in design reviews and support rapid iteration.
  • Engineering Documentation: Create and maintain mBOMs, assembly procedures, test procedures, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Tooling & Equipment: Design, validate, and implement fixtures, tooling, and equipment for manufacturing and testing.
  • Root Cause & Failure Analysis: Act as the primary point of contact for non-conforming hardware. Work with peer teams to investigate issues, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and drive improvements to the designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Systems Integration: Support integration and test of avionics subassemblies and full vehicle systems.
