About The Position

The Aviation Advisor is a critical member of the growing SGS Aviation Compliance team, providing independent aviation safety and compliance expertise to clients operating in complex and high‑risk environments. Supporting both fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing operations, the role primarily serves clients within the Oil, Gas, and Mining sectors. Aviation Advisors contribute directly to strengthening client aviation safety outcomes while upholding and advancing SGS Aviation Compliance standards, credibility, and best‑practice methodology. The Aviation Advisor delivers aviation safety advice and conducts operational, technical, and compliance audits for SGS Aviation Compliance clients. Acting as a direct liaison with client representatives on aviation matters, Advisors build trusted professional relationships while maintaining objectivity and independence. All work is performed in accordance with SGS Aviation Compliance standards and procedures, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment across all client engagements. Advisory support and audit conclusions are based on applicable regulatory requirements and recognized international best practices and are reinforced through robust internal peer review. Aviation Advisors are responsible for planning and executing audits, including Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) audits, producing high‑quality audit reports, and supporting clients with corrective action planning and closure of audit findings. Strong project management, report writing, and time‑management skills are essential to manage multiple engagements and follow up effectively with audit clients. The role requires substantial aviation operational experience, including flight and operational exposure to fixed‑wing and/or rotary‑wing aircraft, as well as proven experience within Oil, Gas, and Mining environments. Aviation Advisors must combine practical operational insight with strong analytical and communication skills, enabling them to deliver pragmatic, value‑adding advice while contributing to the continued growth and capability of the SGS Aviation Compliance practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 15+ years of hands-on aircraft technology experience
  • 15+ years of Aviation experience
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate
  • Quality Assurance experience in the aviation industry, including experience relevant to SGS Compliance Aviation activities
  • People management experience
  • Airline Transport Pilots License and/or Aircraft Mechanic License
  • Flight Engineer License or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licenses or other professional licenses
  • Specialist aviation qualifications or experience judged equivalent by the Vice President Operations and Global Head Aviation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Shows integrity in all aspects of their work.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.

  • Management systems auditing experience at lead auditor level
  • Helicopter experience
  • Oil, Gas, Mining industry experience
  • Valid Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) training certificate for travelling offshore – could be obtained after being hired, while working for SGS as business demands
  • Advisors likely to be travelling offshore are required to have a valid HUET training certificate.
  • Advisors participating in the BARS auditing program must meet all the requirements set out in the BARS Procedures Manual
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
