About The Position

Join the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library as our AV Technician – Events & Programming and help power the experiences that bring our mission to life. This role is focused primarily on live events, public programs, rentals, board meetings, and VIP engagements across the Library’s auditorium, classrooms, café, and outdoor spaces. You will ensure that every microphone works, every screen is clear, and every event runs cleanly and professionally. While the core focus is events and programming, this role will also provide support to the Exhibits team for troubleshooting, maintenance, and gallery AV coordination as needed. This is a highly visible, guest-facing role. During peak season and major events, the pace will be fast and hands-on. Off-season work will emphasize preventive maintenance, system optimization, documentation, and preparation for upcoming programs and rentals.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in audiovisual technology, theater production, live event production, media production, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience in live event AV, theater, corporate production, or higher education environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of live audio mixing, wireless microphone systems, projection systems, and digital presentation platforms.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the facility during events.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and safely move AV equipment.
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programming schedules.
  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working onsite at TRPL, located in Medora, ND.
  • Must reside within a reasonable distance of Medora, ND (within 60 miles or less than a one-hour drive).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with livestreaming platforms and basic video switching a plus.
  • Familiarity with control systems such as Crestron, Q-SYS, or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AV setup, operation, and strike for public programs, lectures, performances, board meetings, and private rentals.
  • Operate audio mixing consoles, wireless microphones, playback systems, projection, and presentation software during live events.
  • Coordinate directly with presenters, performers, and event clients to understand technical needs in advance.
  • Conduct pre-event system checks and rehearsals.
  • Provide on-site technical support throughout events, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Manage portable AV equipment inventory and storage.
  • Support livestreaming or hybrid events when required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot auditorium and event-space AV systems.
  • Document system configurations, signal flow, and event setups for consistency and repeatability.
  • Provide occasional troubleshooting and minor maintenance support for exhibit AV systems in coordination with the Exhibits team.
  • Coordinate with external AV vendors for large-scale or complex productions
