About The Position

As an AV Systems Design Engineer, you'll serve as the technical bridge between sales and delivery, translating client commitments into engineered solutions. This is a post-sales role focused on detailed system design, technical documentation, and client collaboration after contracts are signed. You'll take sold opportunities and transform them into fully specified, buildable AV systems that meet client expectations and project requirements. You'll be based in our Andover, MA office with regular travel (2 days/week) to customer sites for design quality control, coordination meetings, and technical reviews.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in AV system design or post-sales engineering roles
  • Strong understanding of AV signal flow, system integration, and control systems
  • Experience with unified communications platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) in enterprise environments
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints, electrical drawings, and technical schematics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally 2 days/week

Nice To Haves

  • CTS-D and/or CTS-I certification
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools
  • Experience with D-Tools, Xten-AV, or similar AV design software
  • Background in construction coordination or MEP integration

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical design phase following contract award, translating sales commitments into detailed engineering deliverables
  • Design comprehensive AV systems integrating unified communications platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams), audio systems, LED video walls, camera switching, and collaboration tools
  • Ensure designs meet performance, scalability, and usability standards while staying within approved budgets and timelines
  • Conduct post-award site surveys and technical discovery sessions to validate assumptions and refine designs
  • Travel to customer sites (2x/week) to perform design QC, verify field conditions, and coordinate with installation teams
  • Develop complete system documentation packages including equipment lists, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, and infrastructure requirements
  • Create detailed cabling plans, conduit schedules, and coordination drawings
  • Produce executive summaries and technical narratives for client review and approval
  • Generate accurate bills of materials (BOM) and coordinate with procurement
  • Prepare submittal packages and respond to RFIs during the design phase
  • Lead design review meetings with clients, architects, consultants, and internal project teams
  • Manage client expectations through the design phase, addressing technical questions and change requests
  • Coordinate with general contractors, electrical contractors, and other trades to ensure design integration
  • Support value engineering discussions when scope or budget adjustments are needed
  • Provide occasional pre-sales technical support during complex pursuits or when specialized expertise is required
  • Participate in select site surveys and needs assessments to support sales estimates
  • Assist in technical presentations when deep system knowledge is needed to close opportunities
