About The Position

Planned Systems International (PSI) is an Enterprise IT services company who focuses on designing, building, securing, and operating cutting-edge software solutions that drive mission success and operational excellence for Federal Government organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced Audiovisual (AV) Design Engineer to design system solutions to meet customer requirements, define system design, capabilities, and limitations, and producing accurate as-built documentation. The AV Design Engineer supports the sales team during the quoting process, provides final design guidance to the CAD team, and delivers a clear project handoff to the assigned project manager.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in AV industry in a technical design role.
  • CTS (minimum requirement), working towards CTS-D (preferred).
  • Be skilled in AV and architectural design with strong knowledge of network infrastructure. I.e. in LAN setup and network infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge of Crestron, Extron, QSC, and similar control systems, as well as DSP and audio-conferencing best practices.
  • Capable of independent thinking and working, while meeting required deadlines, and able to interact effectively with employees, customers, and colleagues.
  • Expertise in solving problems and resolving issues. Capable of identifying and analyzing intricate system challenges.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction drawings and system wiring diagrams.
  • Strong people skills; effective verbal and written communicator. Able to work well with field staff, management, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Some programming knowledge is preferred.
  • Eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance is preferred.
  • Cerifications in one or more of the following are preferred: CTS-D AV CAD CompTIA Network+ TesiraFORTÉ Q-SYS Level One

Responsibilities

  • When appropriate, join the lead technician during site visits and assist in conducting thorough needs assessments with the customer.
  • Support the Senior Sales & Capture Manager in drafting a preliminary Statement of Functionality outlining system capabilities and limitations based on customer objectives.
  • Prepare and deliver to the business development team a comprehensive bill of materials (BOM) reflecting the agreed-upon requirements. The BOM will detail all necessary components, hardware, and prefabricated cables required to complete the system, along with estimated costs for bulk cable and installation hardware. Projects are initially estimated during the quoting process and are fully engineered following contract award.
  • Develop a system flow diagram using the bill of materials (BOM), making sure to include all miscellaneous equipment in a timely manner.
  • Assist with technical design, contract pricing, and material and labor estimates for proposals as required.
  • Prepare a labor estimate according to site conditions and scope.
  • After the project is awarded, the AV Design Engineer approves the signal flow diagram and sends it to the CAD team for construction drawings.
  • Create a Technical Scope of Work for internal field operations use.
  • Reviews the SOW and BOM with Project Tean for post award processing.
  • Coordinates BOM documentation updates according to site conditions and discussions with PM/Lead Technician and Programmer.
  • Meet vendors to assess products as needed.
  • Provide technical support to other departments as needed, i.e. support service technicians and programmers.
  • Recognize your role as the primary representative of PSI/Kinex, striving to make a positive impression on customers each day.
  • Engage effectively with all team members and project stakeholders, both within and outside the organization.
  • Follow PSI/Kinex policies and procedures, such as timely completion of timesheets, expense reports, etc.

  • Respond quickly to all emails and voicemails, even outside of regular work hours if necessary.
  • Ensure that all company and client-owned resources are always managed and handled with respect.
