About The Position

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves? The Autonomous Robotics Engineer will play a key role in defining, deploying, and scaling next-generation automation across Ford’s global manufacturing network. This role supports the launch of advanced Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) and AGV technologies that modernize in-plant logistics, increase safety, improve quality, and enable Best-in-World manufacturing performance. You will work hands-on with robotics systems, controls, IT architecture, and cross-functional launch teams to deliver reliable, repeatable automation that transforms how material moves in our plants.

  • Understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards related to AGV/AMR technologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, commissioning, and launch of AMR systems for in-plant material flow.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Controls, IT, Safety, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering) to plan and integrate AMR/AGV systems into facility operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across controls, networking, software, and system integration during facility commissioning and launch.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities to enhance AMR throughput, uptime, fleet behavior, and system robustness.
  • Benchmark Best-in-World AMR/AGV deployments and translate findings into Ford’s automation strategy and standards.
  • Lead design reviews, risk assessments, readiness evaluations, commissioning processes, and handoff to plant operations.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
