About The Position

The Office of Fleet Management is seeking an automotive mechanic with moderate experience in automotive mechanical repair field. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performs general automotive mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, basic diagnostics in a fleet maintenance garage setting. For the benefit of on-the-job training aids higher level automotive mechanics. Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed. Performs basic computer diagnostics on powertrain engine management systems. Conducts mechanical repairs or replacement of major component assemblies such as engines, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies. Performs accurate troubleshooting mechanical repair and service on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC). Performs preventive maintenance procedures including oil changes, fluid changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing. Perform brake repairs and replacement. This position is for an automotive mechanic with basic entry level skills who looks forward to being mechanically and technically challenged furthering their career goals. Requirements

  • EDUCATION: High school graduate.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Nice To Haves

  • General automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications.
  • Must be a great problem solver.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
