About The Position

The project engineering lead for an Auto chipset is responsible for end-to-end planning and execution across all phases—from concept through commercialization. Automotive chipset comprises of multiple integrated components (e.g., Application Processor, Power management ICs, Connectivity chips) and associated software/firmware for various target markets covering Cockpit and ADAS designs. This role ensures delivery of all engineering outcomes, including product functionality, stability, reliability, functional safety, security, performance and power. The position requires close collaboration with the chipset Program Manager, chipset Product Manager, and engineering leads across hardware, software, test, documentation, and tools to support a competitive product with on-time customer product launches. This role serves as the final point of escalation for engineering issues and is responsible for clear communication of project status to executives. The environment is highly matrixed and frequently requires influencing without direct authority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • OR PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in one or more areas of semiconductor product development.
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership role.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in semiconductor product development (e.g., system design, architecture, hardware design/validation, software development).
  • 5+ years of experience balancing tradeoffs between product KPIs and costs.
  • 5+ years of experience managing project costs.
  • 4+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
  • 3+ years of experience interacting with executive leadership (e.g., vice president level and above).

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions with senior leaders to define requirements and scope for large, complex Auto chipsets; negotiate resources and budgets.
  • Outline schedules, costs, requirements, and KPIs from concept to commercialization; support program management in building detailed cross‑team plans; identify new product‑relevant KPIs.
  • Guide team leads in tracking progress, metrics, and adherence to requirements, schedules, and budgets; make trade‑off decisions balancing schedule, cost, resources, and KPIs.
  • Continuously improve development methodologies, tools, planning, and processes.
  • Align multiple engineering project teams and make high‑level architectural decisions; oversee design reviews across technologies; provide recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop and influence KPI verification methodologies for chipset components; oversee hardware, software, and systems‑level testing, verification, and validation.
  • Drive cross‑functional engineering teams to resolve complex product‑level issues; lead debugging efforts involving ambiguous or multi‑component interactions.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery of hardware, software, testing, documentation, and tools for large chipset projects; lead integration of all components into the final deliverable.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders and guide cross‑functional leaders throughout implementation and commercialization; own chipset bring‑up and field issue resolution.
  • Manage customer expectations for execution, schedules, and issues; support product managers in demonstrating product features and KPIs to customers.
  • Serve as an expert resource on emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitor products; direct research efforts across engineering teams.
  • Drive strategic evolution and roadmap creation in partnership with senior stakeholders.
  • Define departmental guidelines for clear technical documentation; write and review documentation.
