About The Position

The Automation Technologist will support Delaware Basin operations by executing complex automation tasks under general supervision. This role focuses on field device integration, automation system support, troubleshooting, and ensuring data quality across host systems. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical resource for automation projects and collaborate closely with Operations and Facilities Engineering to improve system performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Automation) or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of relevant oil & gas automation experience
  • Strong background in device integration, instrumentation, and field automation
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation hardware and software systems
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • PLC Programming (Rockwell / Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • Automation system troubleshooting
  • Field device integration
  • HMI development
  • DCS systems (ABB 800xA preferred)
  • Knowledge of ISA & IEC standards
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in E&P operations preferred
  • Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
  • Industrial Electrician (Red Seal)
  • Instrumentation & Control Technician (Red Seal)

Responsibilities

  • Integrate field devices into automation applications
  • Provide ongoing support for automation host systems and ensure uptime
  • Perform device setup, point-to-point checkout, and troubleshooting
  • Resolve alarm, hardware, and data quality issues
  • Support operations with daily technical automation guidance
  • Work cross-functionally to design and implement automation solutions
  • Lead and support automation projects and pilot initiatives
  • Maintain historical data and documentation
  • Identify opportunities to add business value through automation
  • Manage multiple concurrent automation projects
