About The Position

The Automation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of automation and control systems across Dugan Production Corp.'s operations. This role ensures reliable operation of field automation devices, instrumentation, and communications equipment used in monitoring and controlling natural gas compressors, saltwater disposals, tank levels, and other critical field infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in supporting production efficiency, equipment reliability, and operational safety through skilled technical work and timely response to automation-related issues.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of automation hardware, sensors, programmable logic devices, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting serial, IP, and wireless communications systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, install conduit and cable runs, and verify system continuity.
  • Strong analytical skills for diagnosing faults and implementing corrective actions in the field.
  • Familiarity with solar-powered equipment and remote power systems.
  • Ability to maintain clear, timely records of fieldwork and repairs.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork including lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing, and bending.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with operations teams.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in industrial or oilfield automation preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency required (data entry, email, report generation).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain control panels and control systems on compressors, pumping units, SWDs, and solar-powered infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance on company-owned automation and instrumentation.
  • Install field monitoring devices such as tank radar/sonar units, pressure sensors, and other instrumentation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot communication devices including unlicensed radios, serial interfaces, and cellular modems.
  • Ensure all automation systems interface properly with telemetry and SCADA systems.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of automation parts and tools to support field service work and emergency repairs.
  • Document work performed, generate basic reports, and communicate findings and follow-up needs to supervisory personnel.
  • Assist in commissioning new equipment and testing automation integration prior to deployment.
  • Collaborate with other field technicians, mechanics, and engineers to resolve multi-disciplinary issues.
  • Support operational uptime and safety through timely call-out response and problem-solving.
  • Follow all safety and environmental procedures while working with electronic components, power supplies, and networked devices.
