About The Position

The System Pharmacy Automation Specialist is responsible for the planning, execution, and maintenance / support of pharmacy specific applications; supporting our hospitals and ambulatory clinics and maximizing the business value to our users of those applications. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician license through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy.
  • Two (2) years of Pharmacy applications support or informatics experience.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in related field.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT) through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy.
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Pharmacy automation experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access), database management, and document preparation.
  • Prefer experience with Hospital based and Ambulatory / Clinic based applications such as: McKesson (Paragon), Pyxis, Pharmogistics, MILT, Abacus, Pharmopack.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in computer applications, use of electronic medical record keeping systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains system control and application configuration for hardware and software to maximize pharmacy applications across the pharmacy enterprise.
  • Leads efforts to install and implement system patches, service packs and version upgrades as assigned; leads process improvement efforts; remains familiar with industry best practices; develops and maintains a roadmap for future system improvements; ushers through simple to complex system environment changes.
  • Collaborates with system users towards continuous improvement of the business value delivered by our software applications.
  • Designs and executes small-to-medium scale application testing as required. Supports large-scale testing efforts as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots, identifies root cause, and documents problems for assigned applications and systems. Escalates application issues with St. Charles Health System management and if necessary, the software vendor, while maintaining issue status reports.
  • Analyzes and manages systems to ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Collaborates with caregivers across the enterprise to build strong relationships. Forms strong partnerships with vendors.
  • Maintains data integrity and security for assigned applications and systems.
  • Assists in the preparation for, and conducts, user training when required. Mentors other caregivers.
  • Collaborates with system users to provide business reporting.
  • Manages small-scale projects and completes the associated Project Management deliverables as assigned.
  • Develops system documentation as assigned per standards; drafts changes to policy and procedures relating to documentation. Maintains files and quality manuals.
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
