Introduction RETTEW is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to join our growing Facilities and Construction practice in Mechanicsburg, PA. In this role, you’ll be part of a high-performing team focused on designing and implementing advanced electrical and control systems that power modern infrastructure. Position Summary / What You’ll Do As an Automation Engineer at RETTEW, you’ll help position our team at the forefront of industrial automation, data center construction, and electrical grid modernization. You’ll apply your technical expertise to support complex projects from design through implementation, collaborating closely with engineers and clients to deliver smart, reliable, and efficient automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in automation or controls engineering.
  • Proficiency with PLC and HMI programming platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and industrial communication networks.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and collaborate effectively within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in data center, industrial, or power distribution projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, or similar design tools.
  • PE license or ability to pursue licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and implement electrical and control systems for industrial and commercial facilities.
  • Develop control strategies, process diagrams, and documentation for automation and SCADA systems.
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and related instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate automation solutions into overall facility designs.
  • Conduct site visits to support system commissioning and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Lead portions of projects independently, contributing to budgets, schedules, and deliverable quality.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies in automation, data systems, and electrical design.
