Position Summary: The Automation Engineer will provide support for automated equipment within a state of the art and highly validated pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The position offers a balance of hands-on field work and office-based design, programming, and planning. The individual will be part of a four-week rotation providing weekend on-call automation support. Shift Hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science and 2 years of automation experience
  • Associate degree or Certification in Electrical Technology and 4 years of automation experience
  • Electrical system prints reading and troubleshooting.
  • Pneumatic system prints reading and troubleshooting.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • HMI programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley/Wonderware/Ignition preferred)
  • SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
  • Server/PC hardware configuration and disaster recovery
  • Network troubleshooting and configuration
  • Vision System programming and troubleshooting (Cognex preferred)
  • Network troubleshooting and configuration
  • VFD and Servo Controller setup (Allen-Bradley/Yaskawa preferred)
  • Current loop calibration and troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Office, VMware, and general PC proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Respond to trouble calls to diagnose and resolve automation related issues on manufacturing and packaging equipment
  • Identify obsolete or unreliable automation components and integrate robust replacements
  • Work with Operations and Engineering to identify improvement opportunities and perform the programming and field modifications required to implement
  • Work with Capital project teams to assist with design, installation, start-up, and validation of new equipment.
  • Continue to develop expertise in PLCs, HMIs, PCs, networking, robots, motor controls, vision systems, printers, sensors, and additional automation equipment by attending training, conferences, and self-study
  • Work with the automation team to help determine and document best practices and equipment standards
  • Effectively manage multiple assignments
  • Effectively communicate with all departments and levels of the organization and articulate automation details using written reports and presentations
  • Analyze complex problems and determine solutions that address root cause
