About The Position

As an Automation Engineer at Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing automated solutions to enhance our manufacturing processes and systems. You will play a critical role in driving efficiency, improving quality, and supporting the continuous advancement of our medical technology products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and industrial networking protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profibus).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial robotics (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB) and vision systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with GAMP 5 and FDA regulations (21 CFR Part 11) related to automated systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, program, and test automation solutions for manufacturing equipment and processes, including PLC, HMI, SCADA, and robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, IT) to define automation requirements and integrate solutions into existing infrastructure.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of complex automation and control system issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
  • Develop and execute validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ) for automated systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal quality requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for automation-related deviations and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new automation technologies and equipment to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on automated systems and equipment operation.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
