We are currently looking for an Automation Engineer Control Design (x|f|m) for Sartorius Stedim Biotech GmbH, based at our headquarters in Göttingen or alternatively at our site in Pompey, France. In this role, you will design and validate advanced control concepts for our next-generation chromatography platforms. You will develop innovative strategies and verify them through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will transform ideas into high-performing solutions, ensuring seamless integration across our chromatography systems and downstream portfolio.   • Design, configure, and test control concepts for chromatography units, working closely with Bioprocess Engineers to optimize the performance of our chromatography systems
  • Implement control logic using Matlab|Simulink
  • Build and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing setups to validate control logic, simulate process conditions, and ensure reliable system behavior before site commissioning.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, hardware engineers, and test management to ensure alignment between automation, hardware, and process requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews to define automation and control requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders in R&D, automation, and data analytics
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation tools and testing methodologies
  • Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Automation, Informatics or related field.
  • Experience in automation|control system development
  • Proficiency with Matlab|Simulink and Python
  • Strong understanding of process control principles, instrumentation, and P&ID interpretation
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, OPC, Ethernet|IP)
  • Experience with simulation or HIL testing environments for validation of control logic
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in English, German or French can be advantageous
  • PhD is an advantage
