About The Position

This is a highly skilled role responsible for leading the development, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation and control systems across our network of plants. This is a great opportunity to serve as a technical expert and strategic partner, collaborating with engineering teams, automation vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive automation efficiency, ensure system reliability, and support business objectives. This position is a full-time, exempt role scheduled for four nights per week (48 hours total), with flexibility in start and end times.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years working experience with PLC programming
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming, motor controls, AC/DC drives, vision systems, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex control systems, including wiring, relay logic, and industrial networks.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols, quality control, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Proven extensive knowledge and experience in automation, electrical controls, or related fields, preferably within food manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
  • Proven expertise in project management, automation system development, and capital improvements.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with vendors to implement automation solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of new automated control systems, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external automation integration vendors to develop innovative control solutions.
  • Analyze automation and electrical control systems to identify opportunities for process improvements, increased efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Develop and standardize electrical design requirements, specifications, and best practices across multiple locations.
  • Oversee and guide system troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Provide expertise in PLC programming, hardware/software configuration, and integration of control systems for new and existing equipment.
  • Drive compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices while ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and vendors on capital improvement projects related to automation and controls, managing timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Mentor and develop technical personnel, providing training on automation systems and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Act as a strategic advisor, supporting leadership with data-driven recommendations for automation investments and long-term operational enhancements.
