About The Position

As Lead Electrician and Building Automation Specialist, you will serve as the technical cornerstone of JLL's facility operations team, bridging the critical intersection of electrical systems and building automation technology. This role involves leading a team of skilled electricians while programming and optimizing sophisticated building automation systems to ensure facilities run at peak performance. Working directly with the Hard Services Manager, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring electrical infrastructure and HVAC controls operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This position offers the unique opportunity to influence both day-to-day operations and long-term facility optimization strategies, making a tangible impact on JLL's commitment to operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 2 years of hands-on experience working with low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of electrical infrastructure operation and troubleshooting.
  • Current valid Electrical License (required and non-negotiable for this position).
  • Proven expertise in building automation systems (BAS) programming and operation, with at least two years of dedicated BAS experience including familiarity with multiple communication protocols such as Honeywell Experion, BacNet, Lon Works, or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate technical personnel, with strong track record of providing guidance and facilitating knowledge transfer within a team environment.
  • Technical proficiency in reading and interpreting HVAC, electrical, and control system blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings, combined with hands-on experience using diagnostic equipment and Windows-based building management software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences, including clients, contractors, and engineering staff.
  • Physical capability to meet job demands including lifting 50 lbs., working on ladders up to 26 feet, operating in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions, and wearing required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or formal education in electrical systems, building automation, or related field that provides foundational knowledge complementing hands-on experience.
  • Experience with specific building automation platforms such as Siemens, Honeywell Experion, or Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) software, which can be expanded through on-the-job training and vendor certifications.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and demonstrated experience analyzing operational data to develop cost-saving optimization recommendations.
  • Background in project management activities including scope identification, vendor coordination, cost estimating, and quality control inspections—skills that can be further developed in this role.
  • Familiarity with uninterruptible power systems (UPS), emergency power systems, and critical operations electrical support, with willingness to expand expertise through manufacturer training.
  • Experience supporting laboratory or mission-critical facilities where system reliability and uptime are paramount, though general commercial facility experience is acceptable.
  • Basic network configuration capabilities and comfort learning new software platforms and digital control systems as technology evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work assignments with the electrical team, providing technical guidance and mentorship while troubleshooting complex system issues.
  • Monitor building automation systems via computer workstations, analyzing alarm reports, and programming BAS databases to optimize HVAC performance and energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot medium voltage power issues.
  • Support the Central Utility Plant's electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with HVAC technicians on control integration challenges.
  • Interface with project coordinators and engineers on design meetings and site visits, reviewing work in progress to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on critical electrical and mechanical equipment, from UPS systems to lighting controls.
  • Stay connected via phone and email to dispatch, vendors, and facility stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality control inspections of near-complete projects.
  • Develop corrective action plans with third-party contractors.
  • Perform estimates for upcoming electrical and automation projects.
  • Mentor team members, facilitating cross-training between electrical and automation disciplines.
  • Respond to urgent comfort or safety concerns.
  • Document work thoroughly, creating detailed reports and work orders.
  • Continuously analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for energy savings and operational improvements.
