About The Position

Hennepin Technical College, one of the most diverse two-year colleges in Minnesota, is seeking an Automated Systems and Mechatronics Technology Instructor for a 2-year fixed term, full-time position. Faculty in this program provide classroom and laboratory instruction to prepare students for careers in automated manufacturing systems. This instruction includes hands-on training in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, sensors, electrical systems, motor controls, and pneumatic technologies. Instructors guide students in designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems, and collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance. Founded in 1972, Hennepin Technical College is the largest technical college in Minnesota, with campuses in Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie. It serves over 9,500 diverse students across more than 45 programs, boasting a 99% job placement rate. Requirements

  • Associate degree from an automated systems and mechatronics, electrical/mechanic systems or fluid power program
  • Four full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in automated systems and mechatronics, electrical/mechanic, or fluid power
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field
  • The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years
  • Course construction (credit course)
  • Teaching/instructional methods (credit course)
  • Student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)
  • Philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)
  • Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status
  • These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired
  • This course shall be waived for individuals who, at the time of hire, have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework

Nice To Haves

  • Experience Programming Robots and Cobots including FANUC Robots and Universal Robotics
  • Experience with VFD’s and Servo motors
  • Experience Troubleshooting PLC’s utilizing Allen-Bradley products
  • Experience integrating Robotic Systems, Vision System, VFD’s and PLC Systems
  • Experience with Electrical Schematic reading, application, and drawing
  • Experience with Packaging Machinery and/or Process controls
  • Experience troubleshooting Mechanical and Electrical Systems

Responsibilities

  • Teach Instructional lecture and lab courses in Automation Robotics Engineering Technology
  • Continuous curriculum development, including the design, revisions, and implementation of instructional materials and assessment of learner outcomes
  • Integration of assessment activities into teaching practices and participation in department and college-wide assessment of student learning
  • Support of the success and development of students through the use of a variety of instructional methods, available office hours, and by providing additional resources
  • Development and implementation of on-campus, online and hybrid courses
  • Contribution into department decisions on budget, scheduling, textbook selection etc
  • Participation in discipline, team, campus, and college matters through service on committees; attendance at regular meetings; and continued professional development
  • Support and advance the department and college mission through ideas and projects
  • This position may have time devoted to developing collaborative partnerships related to grants obtained or potentially obtained by the program and college
