About The Position

The AutoCAD Designer (Civil 3D) supports the Engineering team by producing high-quality civil site plans, exhibits, and permit-ready deliverables for energy and infrastructure projects. This role is hands-on in Civil 3D and focused on accurate plan production, surface modeling, layout drafting, and incorporation of engineering direction into clear, constructible drawings. Typical project work includes well pad grading, access roads, drainage-related exhibits, and stormwater permitting support. The CAD Designer works closely with Engineers, Engineering Managers, and internal teams (Survey, GIS, Permitting, and Project Management) to ensure base data accuracy, coordination with engineering requirements, adherence to client and jurisdiction standards, and consistent quality control prior to submittal. The position requires strong Civil 3D skills, attention to detail, and a production-focused mindset to support project schedules and budgets.

Requirements

  • Civil 3D proficiency: Strong ability to produce and revise civil drawings, grading surfaces, corridors, and exhibits in Civil 3D.
  • CAD standards and templates: Demonstrated ability to maintain Civil 3D templates, styles, label sets, sheet sets, and CAD standards in a multi-user environment.
  • Civil drafting fundamentals: Understanding of grading, access roads, site layout, and drainage exhibit conventions.
  • Coordination with engineering staff: Ability to interpret engineering direction and ensure drainage and stormwater requirements are accurately represented in drawings.
  • Attention to detail: Consistent self-QC and adherence to standards to produce clean, accurate drawings.
  • Communication: Clear, timely communication with Engineers and internal teams.
  • Organization and accountability: Strong time management, accurate time tracking, and reliability in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in CAD, Drafting, Civil Technology, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing civil CAD deliverables in a professional environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, multi-discipline setting.
  • Reliable internet access and a designated, quiet workspace are required.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, including regular use of a keyboard, mouse, and multiple monitors.
  • Employment is limited to candidates authorized to work in the United States and able to work within continental U.S. time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Energy and oil & gas experience, including well pad grading, access roads, and drainage or stormwater exhibits.
  • Familiarity with stormwater calculations and permitting workflows and BMP exhibits.
  • Experience working with survey and GIS data; ArcGIS exposure is a plus.
  • Experience supporting high-throughput programs with repeatable deliverables and templates.
  • One or more years of experience supporting civil site projects (grading, access roads, drainage and stormwater exhibits).
  • Experience supporting energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing company AutoCAD standards, templates and prototypical drawings.
  • Civil 3D certification or advanced training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming requests to understand scope, required deliverables, schedule, and applicable client and jurisdiction standards.
  • Gather and validate inputs including survey data, GIS layers, existing surfaces, prior exhibits, and client CAD standards.
  • Identify missing or conflicting information and coordinate with engineering staff to resolve issues and confirm design assumptions early.
  • Organize project files and establish a clear drafting workflow aligned with internal standards.
  • Produce civil site drawings and exhibits in Civil 3D, including grading plans, surfaces, access road alignments and layouts, site layout and plan-view exhibits
  • Develop drainage- and stormwater-related exhibits based on engineering input, criteria, and direction.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff to ensure drainage requirements, flow paths, and stormwater concepts are accurately reflected in plan sets and exhibits.
  • Support stormwater permitting deliverables by producing BMP exhibits, SWPPP/SWMP figures, and related plan sheets as required by project scope.
  • Translate engineering markups, redlines, and review comments into accurate, well-organized CAD drawings.
  • Revise and update plan sets and exhibits as designs progress.
  • Perform self-QC on drawings prior to Engineering review to ensure correct geometry, labeling, scales, and symbology.
  • Verify drawings align with project scope, engineering direction, client standards, and jurisdiction submittal requirements.
  • Incorporate review comments accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with final plan set organization and packaging for submission or handoff.
  • Coordinate with Engineers to confirm grading intent, drainage requirements, and design constraints affecting plan production.
  • Coordinate with Survey and GIS teams to confirm base data accuracy and updates.
  • Coordinate with Permitting and Project Management staff to confirm exhibit requirements, schedules, and jurisdiction expectations.
  • Communicate progress, questions, and constraints clearly to keep work moving and avoid late-stage rework.
  • Support junior CAD staff or production support, as appropriate, through guidance and informal QA/QC.
  • Follow established CAD standards, templates, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Contribute to the improvement of drafting workflows, templates, and checklists.
  • Document common drafting practices, client standards, and jurisdiction requirements to support consistency and onboarding.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency within Civil 3D and CAD workflows.
  • Maintain accurate time entry and task coding in the company timekeeping system.
  • Monitor assigned work against schedules and communicate risks or delays early.
