Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting, and experience in conducting financial audits
  • Positions in this classification are subject to Title 42, Nebraska Administrative Code, Chapter 1 – Minimum Standards for Government Employees Identified as Auditors. The basic requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or the equivalent, with at least 24 semester hours of accounting or auditing. Any combination of education with a concentration in accounting and auditing experience acceptable to the Auditor of Public Accounts may be substituted for the educational requirements in Section 002.01.
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Knowledge of auditing and accounting principles, standards, and practices.
  • Knowledge of Word, Access, and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate in person, by telephone, computer, and email with attention to grammar and spelling.
  • Possess good analytical and computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial/accounting principles and instructions to analytical situations.
  • Ability to exercise limited independent judgment and decisiveness in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to use creativity and decisiveness in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable and verifiable criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Train teammates, as directed, in specific job tasks, practices, and procedures for auditing financial and/or statistical records to maintain and improve the performance levels of these employees.
  • Review statistical and/or financial operations to ensure that data produced follows federal and state statutes and regulations.
  • Plan and conduct investigative audits.
  • Apply statistical analysis techniques and formulae to data.
  • Conduct pre-audit research.
  • Educate clients regarding applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Compile data and information from the audit.
  • Write various documents, including correspondence, work papers, and audit reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
