About The Position

Performs audits of City Business & Occupation Tax returns, Hotel Occupancy Tax returns, Utility Excise Tax returns, Amusement Tax returns and City Service Fee returns. Work Hours: This position will be expected to work a schedule established by the Department Head. Typical hours may generally be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Other and/or additional hours may be necessary to accomplish City and departmental goals, including nights, weekends and /or holidays. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three months of auditing or accounting experience or closely related experience required.
  • Must Possess and maintain a valid State of West Virginia Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Gathers audit information from tax and/or feepayers; organizes and examines data from including gross revenue and federal tax information.
  • Reviews and analyzes tax and/or feepayer financial records including, bank statements, general ledgers, financial statements, deposit records and invoices.
  • Determines whether revenues and/or fees were reported/paid in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Performs assigned Business & Occupation Tax, City Service Fee and other revenue field and desk audits on City tax and feepayers.
  • Assists tax and fee payers with questions regarding the City's business tax, fee and licensing requirements.
  • Conducts exit interviews with tax and fee payers to review and discuss audit findings.
  • Assists in identifying under reporting and/or non-reporting tax and fee payers.
  • Collects the revenue that is due to the City of Charleston from performed audits.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
