If you are interested in working in a creative and fast-paced environment, our USAC  Internship program may be of interest to you.  We are looking for people who are self-starters, enjoys collaborating with teammates, yet able to work independently to get the job done.    The Audit and Assurance Team preserves the integrity of the Universal Service Fund by conducting objective audits, performing quality assessments and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of USAC operations. The AAD Team is comprised of four core operational business units: The USF Compliance Audit Program known as Beneficiary and Contributor Audit Program (BCAP), Payment Quality Assurance (PQA), Strategic Audit known as Supply Chain Audit Program (SCAP), and Project Management Office (PMO).  The AAD Intern will understand the audit and assurance division, learn professional standards, how to complete workpapers, assist with the BCAP Plan, and determine and develop an onboarding manual.  The Intern will participate in USAC sponsored activities, training opportunities and networking events.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a general understanding of data analysis techniques
  • Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as acting autonomously as appropriate
  • You are passionate about our mission to help Americans gain access to essential communications technology
  • You are a problem solver with great attention to detail, can work with little supervision, multi-task, and learn quickly 
  • You have some exposure and experience with the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word) 
  • You are a quick study, love brainstorming new ideas, and are eager to find solutions
  • You are agile at working across other departments 
  • Current student in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • Students pursuing Accounting Degree encouraged to apply
  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • You must be a rising junior or senior student attending an accredited college or university, or a first-year post-graduate within the first year of your program. Nontraditional students may apply. 
  • Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to remain eligible for the program. 
  • Interns must work for a minimum of 16 hours per week (and no more than 19 hours a week) in the USAC office in Washington, DC. 
  • Sponsorship for the USAC Career Path internship program is not available for foreign nationals. 

Responsibilities

  • Learn Professional Standards and How to Complete a Workpaper
  • Customer Focus: Develop an onboarding manual to be used across the AAD department.
  • Plans and Aligns: Assist in the BCAP Plan 2023 development.
  • Learn Regulations and how they impact the work we do: Read through Lifeline regulations and orders to see how the regulations get updated. Determine the impact on our audit program. Make sure we have all necessary updates for 2024 plan year.
