The University of Virginia's School of Law is seeking an Audiovisual Support Engineer to join the Law IT team. The Audiovisual Support Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the audiovisual (AV) systems in the Law School's classrooms, conference rooms and event spaces. Key duties include diagnosing and resolving AV issues, managing system functionality, providing training, recommending strategic enhancements, and overseeing equipment installation and deployment. The role also involves collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Some assistance with help desk walk-ins, phone, and email support troubleshooting general issues with mobile devices, laptop, desktop, and software is also expected. This is an in-person position ineligible for remote work during the first year of employment. This position will include some evening and weekend work, as needed.

  • Proactively enhance the Law School's AV capabilities by recommending innovations and managing infrastructure through usage tracking, replacements, and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with AV integrators, architects, and contractors on major AV installations and upgrades.
  • Install and configure new AV equipment, review product features, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Provide course, events, and day-to-day support to Law School employees, students and guest speakers. Support levels vary and could involve supplemental setups, microphone/speaker management, recordings, and web conferencing.
  • Respond to service requests, diagnose AV issues, and deliver timely solutions for internal and external clients while maintaining clear documentation of issues and providing resolutions into a help desk ticketing system.
  • Conduct regular room checks to ensure all AV systems function properly and address issues proactively.
  • Provide training and support for faculty, staff, and students on classroom technology and loanable equipment; develop clear documentation and help guides.
  • Work closely with a team of IT professionals and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Provide baseline IT support for Tier 1 technology needs.
  • Bachelor's Degree plus two or more years of relevant experience required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to support both technical and non-technical users.

  • Demonstrated ability to review, interpret, and make professional judgments on complex issues while maintaining a consistent level of support.
  • Strong knowledge of AV systems (Crestron, Qsys, Epiphane Pearl, Panopto, Canvas, Shure Microflex, Zoom, and Airtame) preferred.
  • Ability to design/configure/maintain AV systems within a Class A, B and C IPv4 private addressing networking infrastructure desirable.
  • Knowledge of applying AI solutions to AV infrastructure and optimizing workflows and increasing efficiencies in AV support is desirable.
