About The Position

Physical Infrastructure, part of IT Services at the University of Iowa, is seeking a new A/V Installation Engineer. The primary responsibility of this position is to install and configure low voltage cabling, electronics, and A/V systems into conference rooms, classrooms, and specialty spaces, including but not limited to laboratories, studios, and practice rooms. This position will work with a variety of trades to fulfill installation requirements. In addition to installation services, this position may also assist with the setup, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of A/V systems and related technology. This position has a project assignment of 2 years and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as a Communication Infrastructure Engineer (PIB2) with full fringe benefits. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization. This is an onsite position. Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a total of typically 5 years of experience installing and configuring audiovisual technology and/or low-voltage electronics. This could include: A high school diploma or GED and typically 5 years of experience. An associate’s degree or technical diploma and typically 3 years of experience. A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position and typically 1 year of experience.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of power tools, hand tools, and other equipment necessary for the installation of permanent audiovisual technology.
  • Proficient in construction techniques.
  • Ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds. Ability to position self to securely install, mount, and/or hang a wide range of audiovisual equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
  • Working knowledge of standard practices for low-voltage system installation and cable labeling.
  • Working knowledge of the latest trends in audiovisual technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to markup project documents, write and deliver clear instructions, and create work summaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a coordinated project team.

Nice To Haves

  • A/V or low-voltage related certifications such as AVIXA CTS, or CTS-I, BICSI technician.
  • Working familiarity with CSI Division 27 standards for construction specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting audiovisual systems and/or communication systems.
  • Experience terminating, running, and testing prewire or retrofit low-voltage cables (SDI, coaxial, speaker, and/or control cable)
  • Experience installing components of audiovisual architecture and infrastructure (mounting projectors and screens, installing LCD/LED screens, A/V rack wiring, installing speakers).
  • Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, and/or similar audiovisual equipment.
