The Role We are seeking a senior Audiovisual (AV) Associate to join our multidisciplinary IT/Security/Acoustics team. This role leads AV projects from early discovery and concept through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning, delivering coordinated, high-quality documentation and systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a client-facing role, collaborates closely with architects, engineers, IT/low-voltage teams, and owners, and contributes to proposal development. Projects span a wide range of environments including government, civic, corporate, higher education, healthcare, cultural, sports, and public assembly spaces.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in AV consulting and/or design engineering, with progressive responsibility delivering full project lifecycles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architectural engineering, theater technology, information technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in creating coordinated AV models and drawings in Revit (AutoCAD experience also required).
  • Strong understanding of AV architectures and systems, including audio (DSPs, loudspeaker coverage, microphones), video (switching and distribution, cameras, projection/LED/LCD), control systems, and overall user experience.
  • Experience with AV-over-IP systems and enterprise networking concepts (multicast, VLANs/QoS fundamentals, PoE/PoE+), and familiarity with common UCC platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Hands-on knowledge of leading AV ecosystems and tools (e.g., Q-SYS, Biamp Tesira, Dante, AES67, Crestron/Extron control, EASE or similar loudspeaker modeling software, DoS ENS Systems).
  • Demonstrated ability to produce performance specifications, equipment lists, signal flows, device elevations, and installation details aligned with construction deliverables.
  • Strong client-facing communication, facilitation, and presentation skills; ability to translate technical content into clear narratives and actionable decisions.
  • Proposal-writing experience, including scoping, estimating, and planning AV workstreams.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications preferred (AVIXA CTS/CTS-D/CTS-I; Dante Level 2+; manufacturer credentials such as Q-SYS, Biamp, Crestron, Extron).
  • Familiarity with related disciplines such as acoustics, noise and vibration, ICT/low-voltage systems, security, broadcast/production, or performance lighting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead programming, visioning, and basis-of-design development; translate stakeholder needs into clear system narratives, functional matrices, and performance criteria.
  • Develop complete AV design packages across all project phases (concept, SD, DD, CD).
  • Produce and manage coordinated BIM and CAD deliverables (Revit/AutoCAD).
  • Specify AV equipment and systems; prepare detailed basis-of-design reports and front-end procurement documentation.
  • Provide construction administration support, including review of submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and as-builts; support punch lists, acceptance testing, and commissioning.
  • Support proposal development, including scopes, level of effort, assumptions, schedules, and pricing inputs; participate in interviews as needed.
  • Manage client relationships and design meetings; track issues and provide regular status updates while ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
