About The Position

Recording technicians are individuals trained in recording operative procedures to be used for presentations or for teaching trainees. The primary goal of the recording technician is to document key elements of surgical procedures. The recording technician allows the surgeon to focus on what is most important, the patient. A summary of a recording technician duties include working with the surgeon before the procedure to plan which portions of the procedure will need to be recorded. This includes ensuring the recording equipment is ready for use. You also must be able anticipate physician needs during the procedure. Recording technicians must be discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important. You must be adaptable and versatile since you will be responsible for many tasks. Good attendance is also an important element of this job since you will be hard to replace. Requirements

  • Six months experience with audio/video recording equipment, or equivalency, and or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • One year additional experience in radio, or TV equipment operation, typing of 30 wpm, data entry skills, and ability to adapt readily to changes in operations and equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and thoroughly record key elements of the procedure as they are being performed by the surgeon, including but not limited to: · Creating a patient library in a HIPAA compliant site (e.g. Ubox), · Recording the operative procedure. · Storing the recordings in the library · Patient consent may be required if PHI is recorded
  • Recording technicians must comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing recordings and for keeping patient information confidential.
  • Attend trainings on diverse subjects such as information technology, legal, HIPAA and regulatory compliance. Quickly assimilate new knowledge into processes and procedures.
