About The Position

Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking an Audio Supervisor to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. The Audio Supervisor oversees the audio department throughout the 2026 season and ensures high-quality sound in line with the artistic vision for all BSC productions and events. This position requires a driven individual with exceptional leadership skills, excellent organization and time management skills, and extensive knowledge of theatrical sound systems. Requirements

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of theatrical sound systems and equipment, including mixing consoles, speakers, microphones, amplifiers, EQ, and processing gear
  • Experience with recording, editing, and playback of sound effects and music
  • Experience mixing live sound
  • Knowledge of theatrical audio software such as Qlab and Dante
  • Ability to accurately budget and create cost estimates
  • Must be comfortable working with volunteers and students
  • Must have reliable transportation and/or a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Manage the audio team to provide all audio support for productions and events throughout the BSC 2026 season
  • Collaborate with sound designers to determine a seasonal rental package, and source equipment to effectively create their designs in the theatre
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork for each production, including plots, inventories, and cue sheets
  • Consult with Production Management and the creative team to best meet the needs of the production and create accurate cost estimates to remain within budget
  • Provide rehearsal sound systems for the playback of effects or music in rehearsal studios as necessary
  • Coordinate and manage the load in and out of sound equipment, including supervising the staff of the audio department and any overhire staff needed
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness when planning load-ins or changeovers
  • Provide Production Management with accurate load-in/out and changeover paperwork
  • Train run crew in the handling of any sound equipment as necessary
  • Attend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and production meetings as needed, and promptly respond to notes given throughout the rehearsal process
  • Install and ensure communications systems for each production are in working order, including headsets, cue lights, backstage and house paging systems, dressing room monitors, conductor camera feeds, video monitors, additional video cameras and monitors if needed, and assisted listening systems
  • Keep the audio shop clean and organized throughout the season
  • Maintain and update audio inventory
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment
  • Accurately track expenses and provide expenditure reports to Production Management in a timely manner
  • Keep up to date on current trends and technologies in sound design and suggest improvements to the company’s stock or sound systems
  • Maintains clear and consistent communication with Production Management and other Department Heads to ensure effective collaboration throughout the season
  • Other duties as assigned by Production Management
