This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in meaningful and high-impact legal work that supports the Department of Conservation's Division of Geologic Energy Management (CalGEM). Under the general direction of the Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsels, the Attorney will serve as a key legal advisor on matters arising under CalGEM's regulatory programs, which oversee the development, management, and transition of California's oil, gas, and geothermal resources. The Attorney will work on a wide range of assignments involving regulatory compliance, enforcement, permitting, environmental review, rulemakings, and other legal issues critical to advancing CalGEM's mission and statutory mandates. In addition, the Attorney may be called upon to assist with legal matters affecting other Department divisions including the Division of Mine Reclamation (DMR), the California Geological Survey (CGS), and the Division of Land Resource Protection (DLRP). The Attorney will handle a mix of legal assignments encompassing rulemaking and legislation, contracting and procurement, human resources and ethics, Public Records Act requests, and other administrative law matters. This role is ideal for a motivated attorney seeking to deepen their expertise in natural resources and energy law, collaborate with technical and policy professionals, and contribute to solutions that help shape California's environmental and energy future.
