About The Position

The job of Attendance Officer is done for the purpose/s of managing, administering, and implementing compliance of South Carolina and federal mandated compulsory attendance laws. It also provides support and instruction district-wide for the purpose of ensuring program services are within district, state, and federal requirements. Supervises the Attendance Associate, including task delegation, performance monitoring, and providing feedback.

Requirements

  • Knowledge to perform advanced math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes common office machines; current generation office software; methods of troubleshooting hardware and software malfunctions including commonly found peripheral equipment; laws regarding compulsory attendance; knowledge of the court system and processes; and computer software and networking terminology.
  • Skills to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes utilizing pertinent diagnostic and application software; adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include being attentive to detail; displaying mechanical aptitude; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; maintaining confidentiality; and working with constant interruptions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field.
  • Job-related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation

Responsibilities

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work unit.
  • Facilitate communication between various sources (e.g. parents, teachers, principals, family court, sheriff’s department) for the purpose of resolving problems and developing strategies for improvement.
  • Identifies and evaluates issues related to the student information systems and the attendance issues for the purpose of resolving problems and/or referring to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Inputs data into the student information system (e.g. student record updates, assessment records, attendance, scheduling, grading, transcripts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of data.
  • Instructs district and site staff on the use of student information systems for the purpose of ensuring proper and efficient use of the system.
  • Maintains a variety of records and files for the purpose of providing up to date reference materials.
  • Monitors program components (e.g. transfers in/out, expulsions, withdrawals, attendance, drop-out rate, home schooling, attendance boundaries, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring program/services are within district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Participates/facilitates in meetings and workshops for the purpose of communicating student information system capabilities and/or accommodating district goals.
  • Responds to user requests for a variety of report options for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
  • Oversee the daily activities and performance of the Attendance Associate, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Manages and organizes the workflow and assigned tasks for the Attendance Associate.
