Summary/Objective Assist in maintaining consistent student attendance and a safe environment in order to maximize effective student learning. Ensure records are accurate and in compliance with state reporting. Perform a variety of clerical services, following standardized procedures, in an assigned area. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner. Assist in training for attendance in-services/orientations of school staff. Assess students with attendance problems and make home visits to assess the family environment. Organize and lead meetings with parents and/or guardians to ascertain the level of parents’ and students’ educational values and to develop an understanding of the District’s absenteeism policy and explain the truancy intervention process. Provide technical assistance to parents in developing the skills needed to function effectively in a working relationship among home, school and community. Counsel students regarding absenteeism and tardiness to gain their cooperation and identify any underlying problems that may warrant interventions by other professional staff members or outside agencies. Communicate with students to assist in the development of student growth by providing mentorship, understanding and guidance to increase student’s education achievements, attendance and/or behavior. Act as a resource to administrators, guidance counselors, teachers and health services personnel at assigned schools regarding attendance programs, interpretation of attendance policies/laws and record-keeping requirements. Initiate Juvenile Court complaints/citations and attend court to present evidence and testimony related to the case in question. Monitor and patrol District buildings and grounds to assist in the prevention of truancy. Make written reports of and maintain records of attendance violations. Transport students. Keep accurate and complete documentation. Assist attendance clerks, as needed, with letters, drop out/grad rate, enrollments and withdrawals. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules. Perform duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner. Work Environment Attendance officers work within the District Office or school environment. Incumbent may frequently travel to school campuses and other locations around the communities of Kingman, Black Mountain, and Dolan Springs.
