Assists in the development and implementation of a program for the care and prevention of athletic injuries. WHAT YOU WILL DO Assist in the administration of the Sports Medicine Program. Develop, train, and supervise Work Study Training Room Assistants. Help supervise use of all Athletic Training Room facilities. Maintain current medical paperwork on athletes they oversee. Work independently with the medical care and rehabilitation of student-athlete. Provide medical coverage for home varsity athletic contests and practices and away contests as assigned. Collaborate with coaching staff in developing Conditioning, Weight Training, and Nutrition Programs for athletes. Advise coaching staff of sports that they oversee as to daily medical status of injured players. Maintain ultimate responsibility, upon a physician's advice, in determining the athlete’s ability to return to participation at any level. Promote health and physical wellbeing of Athletic Program participants with regard to first aid treatment, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Provide assistance to Health Center personnel with any orthopedic injuries. Coordinate transportation and/or referral to the appropriate medical facilities for both emergency and non-emergency care for all intercollegiate student-athletes. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
