About The Position

The Athletic Trainer will assist in the provision of practice and game medical coverage within the athletic trainer’s scope of practice for area schools. This will require the candidate to travel to area communities. The Athletic Trainer will also assist, within their provision of practice, in the outpatient rehab as well as cardiac rehab. The Athletic Trainer delivers treatment to patients under supervision and collaboration of the physician and in accordance with quality standards of the department.

Requirements

  • Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Meets the certification requirements through educational programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)
  • Meet the requirements for certification established by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Must exhibit excellent professional human relation skills.
  • Also need to demonstrate the ability to work as a team player, ability to multi-task, ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with the prevention, assessment, treatment, and reconditioning of injuries as set forth by the National Athletic Trainer Association Board of Certification.
  • Serves as an Athletic Trainer at local high schools. May include some travel to cover away varsity sports at times.
  • Determine athletes' readiness to participate in conjunction with the team physician(s) (i.e. pre-participation evaluation and post-injury/ illness return).
  • Communicate daily to coaching staff regarding athletes health status.
  • Refers student-athletes to physicians or other specialists as needed
  • Provide medical treatment and rehabilitation per direction of physician and other healthcare professionals
  • Identify psychosocial intervention needs and refer as necessary
  • Participates in operational aspects of the department, performance improvement activities within the department and participates in quality improvement projects.
  • Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, and organizational safety and fire safety programs.
  • Utilizes advanced clinical reasoning and skills in the selection Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Brace Application, Fit, Patient education of diagnosis, expectations, treatment plan, surgery, post-op care, Facilitate outside referral if DME not appropriate. Evaluates the patient/family response to interventions as they relate to stated goals and expected outcomes and modifies as needed.
  • Documentation of care provided, and patient instructions given.
