About The Position

An athletic trainer provides services to local county high schools under the direction of the supervising physician. Supervision from a physician is provided in accordance with the Maryland Board of Physicians.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a CAATE accredited athletic training program.
  • Certified by the Board of Certification
  • Licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the athletic training program for high school athletics
  • Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for high school student-athletes
  • Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season.
  • Refer student-athlete to appropriate medical professional
  • Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
  • Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room
  • Maintain communication with parents on the care & treatment of their student-athlete
  • File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents
  • Maintain a daily treatment log
  • Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up to date inventory
  • Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment
  • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
  • Assist with wrestling certification for high school wrestlers
  • Assist with pre-participation physicals
  • Assist with concussion baseline testing
  • Attend the high school’s parents’ and coaches’ pre-season meetings
  • Display Maryland License and BOC Certification
  • Annually review Athletic Training Handbook
  • Annually review the school’s Emergency Action Plan
