About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Athletics Supervisor, the Athletics Program Instructor will be responsible for conducting a specified athletic class. This includes keeping participant attendance, instruction of class, following lesson plans, management of equipment, ensuring safety of participants and completing any necessary paperwork.

Requirements

  • Individuals 18 years or older who have experience working with children, teens and/or adults in a recreation setting, specifically teaching/leading programs.
  • A working knowledge of various sports or a background playing sports.
  • A basic knowledge of working with participants of multiple ages in a recreation setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, phone and in person with direct supervisor.
  • Must also be able to communicate with large groups of people participating in a given class. This includes enforcing rules and policies of the park district pertaining to the facility or program that you are leading.
  • The ability to learn new skills and make mature decisions regarding safety.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of participants and communicate effectively with them.
  • Must have a positive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at your scheduled shift on time and in appropriate attire.
  • Prepare all needed equipment for the class before participants arrive.
  • Inform supervisor of any equipment that needs to be fixed or replaced and remove any equipment if necessary.
  • Use provided class roster to take attendance for the class each time it meets.
  • Inform participants of emergency exits, safety topics and any other information necessary on the first day of class.
  • Follow the lesson plan or class outline to deliver the program to participants.
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to the Athletics Supervisor, Hunt Club Facility Manager or Risk Manager at the time they are found.
  • Enforce all of the rules and policies set for the class and Park District for staff and participants.
  • At the conclusion of each class the instructor will make sure all equipment is accounted for and put away properly.
  • Report any problems, complaints or concerns to the Athletics Supervisor as they happen.
  • Complete the necessary accident/incident form for any injuries when they happen. This form will then be turned into the specific supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Attend any needed trainings communicated by the Athletics Supervisor.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Supervisor or Hunt Club Facility Manager.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward all co-workers and participants.
  • Be approachable and act professionally at all times.
  • Be knowledgeable of phone locations and the telephone numbers for the police, fire, and paramedics in case of emergency.
  • Assist other supervisors or front desk staff in any extra tasks they have during down time in your shift.
