About The Position

Purpose and Scope The position of Athletic Health Advisor delivers at a high level of competency, overseeing the quality health care for student athletes participating in the district. Manages, coordinates and administers all aspects of injury/illness prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment disposition and health care education and counseling of student-athletes. The position takes accountability for taking steps to reduce risks and liabilities, providing education and training for all athletic employees, and administering specific athletic programs as assigned. Responsibilities require understanding of both theory and practice. Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy, Sports Management, Physical Science, health-related field or related field plus an additional 2 years related experience, or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 6 years.
TN Health Department Athletic Trainer State License and Current Athletic Trainer's Association certification (ATC) required.

Responsibilities

Responsible for establishing a comprehensive educational sports medicine program by developing healthcare procedures and guidelines related to athletic health activities, ensuring the district has a comprehensive healthcare and risk mitigation plan for schools that comply with state and national standards.
Acts as a liaison for the Athletic Department to ensure consistent and effective communication regarding athlete health-related prevention, management, and emergency action plans with various stakeholders.
Shares and designs resources to promote safe playing environments, educate coaches and athletic directors about current trends and important health topics, and evaluate injuries to provide treatment plans for athletes as needed.
Facilitates professional development training for athletic staff, ensuring that athletic directors and coaches are informed about their coaching requirements and responsibilities, including maintaining current medical files and ensuring the safety of athletic equipment for all student athletes in accordance with state and national policies.
Assists the Director of Athletics in maintaining program alignment with district wide goals, strategic plans and academic priorities. Advises on the development and enhancement of school-based athletic programs.
Reviews athletic programming to identify areas of strengths and improvements then work with the appropriate stakeholders to manage and rectify problems impeding success by explaining rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions as needed.
Monitor facility usage and coordinate schedules to maximize access and minimize conflicts.
Coordinate the use of district athletic facilities and equipment by supporting the planning of large-scale events (e.g., championships, jamborees).
Collect and examine athletic related metrics for continuous improvement to support efforts to increase access, participation and academic competence. Prepares metrics reports for internal and external use upon request or as needed.
Promotes positive public relations through media, social media, and community events, highlighting student-athletes, team achievements, and program milestones.
Serves as a point of contact for school-based athletic directors and administrators regarding athletic matters by serving as a liaison between the school system and external partners.
Assist management in planning and administering special programs or services for student athletes.
Works collaboratively with community partners, stakeholders, local, state and national organizations to plan, prepare and implement changes in athletic programming designed to achieve systemwide goals and objectives.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
