Under direct supervision, serves as a member of the sports tourism, facilities, & programs team performing light to heavy physical labor. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields, common areas, and adjunct facilities, performing a variety of tasks including field turf maintenance, event, and game day preparation to ensure safe and playable athletic facilities. Provides customer service to patrons of facilities. Daily general maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and adjunct facilities. Provides professional, friendly, and accurate customer service. Safely operate and fuel a variety of athletic field and/or landscape equipment, including but not limited to: mowers, field groomer, painter, gas-powered string trimmers, pressure washer, edgers, pole saws, backpack blowers, commercial grade pick-up trucks, trailers, utility carts, and other miscellaneous small hand-operated landscape maintenance tools. Perform general grounds maintenance, janitorial duties, fencing, hand weeding, mulching, digging, turf trimming, tree trimming, collection and disposal of litter, removal or installation of plant materials and trees of common areas, amenities, parking lots, and other areas. Performs proper maintenance techniques to ensure a safe playable surface, including maintaining infield skin, infield lips, baselines, warning tracks, pitching mounds, and home plate areas. Includes regular dragging, screen dragging, watering, mowing, edging, and trimming. Paints and marks the field, sets bases and pitching mounds under applicable rules and specified dimensions. Set up, take down, and assist with the operations of scheduled programs, events, camps, practices, games, tournaments, and events. Conducts parks patrols and general inspections of facilities to ensure the safety of the public: open/close park or other facilities; unlock/lock doors and turns lights on/off; monitor facilities and amenities; record/calculate visitor counts and daily usage of facilities, explain facility procedures, rules, and regulations to visitors; report problems to supervisor or necessary law enforcement. Reports potential safety hazards or maintenance issues to the supervisor for follow-up as necessary. Contributes to the decision-making process on the feasibility of playing on the field depending on weather and field conditions. Performs all other related duties or special projects as assigned or directed.
