About The Position

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR PRIMARY FUNCTION To provide strategic leadership, direction, and coordination for the district's comprehensive athletics and physical education programs, ensuring the development and implementation of high-quality instructional experiences that promote student health, wellness, physical literacy, and character development. Guided by the district mission—"In partnership with the community, our students will THRIVE"—and our core beliefs of Trust, High Expectations, Respect, Inclusion, Voice, and Equity, this position oversees interscholastic athletics, intramurals, health education, physical education curriculum, athletic training services, and the district's AED program while fostering an environment where all use while prioritizing educational programming ●Serve as liaison to the South Kingstown Athletic Boosters Club, fostering a strong partnership that supports student success ●Engage families as partners in supporting student participation, health, and wellness ●Create feedback mechanisms and communication channels that honor community voice in program development ●Represent the school district at public events and community forums related to athletics and wellness Athletic Program Administration ●Develop, coordinate, and publish interscholastic athletic schedules in collaboration with principals, coaching staff, and league requirements ●Ensure compliance with all RIIL rules and regulations, including athlete eligibility, practice schedules, medical clearances, insurance coverage, and participation requirements ●Supervise, support, and evaluate all coaching staff using established evaluation protocols and professional growth frameworks ●Coordinate all operational aspects of athletic contests, including transportation, officials, facilities, custodial services, security, and event management ●Oversee ticket sales, gate receipts, and financial accountability for all athletic events ●Manage the district's athletic budget ●Serve as the district's representative at RIIL and state athletic meetings ●Coordinate the annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet and recognition programs that celebrate diverse achievements and contributions ●Maintain and update all athletic policies, handbooks, and procedures to reflect inclusive practices, clear expectations, district core beliefs, and alignment to district policies and school procedures ●Foster a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and respect across all athletic programs Intramural Programs ●Plan, implement, and supervise intramural programming across all schools that provides inclusive opportunities for students of all abilities, identities, and interests ●Hire, supervise, and evaluate intramural staff who demonstrate commitment to the district mission and core beliefs ●Ensure all necessary participation forms, waivers, and safety protocols are current and properly maintained ●Proactively identify and remove barriers to student participation in recreational athletics ●Create programming that allows students to explore interests, develop skills, and build community in supportive, non-competitive environments Health and Physical Education Leadership ●Provide instructional leadership for the district's health and physical education programs that promotes physical literacy, wellness, and lifelong healthy habits for all students ●Lead curriculum development, review, and revision processes aligned with Rhode Island Health and Physical Education standards and the district's commitment to equity and excellence ●Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent and building principals on curriculum matters, assessment, and instructional improvement initiatives ●Supervise and evaluate health and physical education teachers using RI Department of Education guidelines and district evaluation frameworks ●Establish program goals and learning objectives that reflect high expectations while meeting students where they are and honoring their diverse needs ●Promote evidence-based instructional practices that engage all learners ●Provide professional development opportunities that deepen teacher capacity to support all students ●Serve on and contribute to the district Health Sub-Committee and coordinate related initiatives Facilities and Resources Management ●Oversee scheduling and allocation of all athletic facilities, gymnasiums, and outdoor fields to maximize usage for school programs and appropriate community access ●Ensure equitable access to quality facilities and resources across all programs, teams, and student populations ●Coordinate facility use with the Town of South Kingstown Recreation Department, prioritizing school needs while strengthening community partnerships ●Monitor facility conditions and communicate maintenance needs to the Director of Facilities ●Develop and manage annual budgets for athletics, physical education, health education, intramurals, and athletic training services Health and Safety ●Supervise the district's Athletic Trainer and ensure appropriate, equitable sports medicine services for all student-athletes ●Serve as director of the district AED program ●Serve as a member of the District Safety Team ●Oversee injury reporting, documentation, and insurance claim processes with attention to student privacy and dignity ●Ensure emergency action plans are current and staff are properly trained in emergency response procedures ●Monitor and enforce concussion protocols and return-to-play procedures with student health and safety as the highest priority Equity and Inclusion Initiatives ●Regularly collect, analyze, and act upon participation data to identify and address gaps in access and opportunity across student populations ●Work proactively to dismantle barriers that prevent students from participating in athletic and physical education programs ●Develop and implement strategies to increase participation among underrepresented student populations ●Ensure coaching and instructional staff reflect and authentically practice the district's core beliefs ●Create feedback mechanisms to ensure student and family voice in program development and decision-making Communication and Stakeholder Engagement ●Communicate regularly, transparently, and accessibly with families, staff, and community members regarding programs, policies, opportunities, and student achievements ●Promote the district's athletic and physical education programs through various media and Requirements

  • Valid Rhode Island teaching certificate
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience in athletics, coaching, or physical education
