About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings. JOB GOAL: To assist the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal in publishing athletic information and general office duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with computer and commercial software.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining office files and records and compiling reports from standardized information or drafts.
  • Maintain meeting schedule and calendar for Assistant Principal
  • Type and duplicate programs for athletic events
  • Strong knowledge of modern office procedures and practices, business English, spelling and other related subjects.
  • Type and mail State forms when due for all students participating in athletics.
  • Maintain accurate roster information for each sport, at all levels.
  • Coordinate with all opponents in a timely fashion with sports rosters prior to each game, both home and away.
  • Contact all parties involved in each game to confirm dates, times, locations etc.
  • Maintain “honor athlete” records throughout the school year, track and record all letter awards that are given to students.
  • Maintain weekly eligibility reports for all student athletes.
  • Performs and assumes general clerical tasks independently with the guidance of professional personnel, including preparation of correspondences, forms, reports, calendars, and other similar items.
  • Report results of all games to the appropriate media.
  • Serve as a contact point between athletic director and opposing schools, state agencies, coaches, officials, transportation and other athletic directors.
  • Maintain an updated list of all available coaching positions, and current coaching staff, including contact numbers and addresses, as well as up-dated lists of student athletes participating for each team.
  • Set up and run the hospitality room for special sporting events.
  • Type documents/letters for Assistant Principal
  • Assists with general first aid and other related medical tasks according to board policy.
  • Prepare bus requests for athletic activities and field trips.
  • Serve as backup for switchboard as needed.
  • Greet parents as they enter the office, directing them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Update AEP notes and print copies for substitutes
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Procures supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.
  • Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
