About The Position

Under general direction of the Athletic Director, assists in the implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to the Madison sports program. To lead and train athletic activities related to attaining proficiency in sports related functions; and other functions as directed.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain an IVP fingerprint clearance card.
  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work part-time and weekends if necessary.
  • Ability to attend practices and games as scheduled.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of athletic programs.
  • Knowledge of principles, goals, and objectives of athletic programs.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program.
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic sports.
  • Knowledge of sports interest groups and organizations within the local community.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English as well as the ability to write routine correspondence in English.
  • Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of stakeholders.
  • Ability to walk, run and stand for extended periods.
  • Occasionally sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to accurately perceive sound, have near and far vision, depth perception,
  • Ability to handle and work with educational sport learning aids, materials and objects
  • Provide oral information and direction in a clear voice above noise.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate (preferred)
  • Varsity head coaching experience (preferred) or assistant coaching experience in the sport or high school/college playing experience.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Implement essential components of the school site interscholastic sports program, including coaching and supervision of students.
  • Supervise students during practice, games, tournaments, and team travel.
  • Assist with arranging team games, schedules, tournaments, and transportation.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate sports activities and training workouts, and coaches individuals concerning specific physical performance activities and procedures.
  • Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of school equipment.
  • Model fundamental skills and techniques.
  • Model proper dress, language, demeanor and student/teacher relations.
  • Follow district athletic policies, rules and regulations.
  • Instruct, explain and enforce health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform basic first aid on students if needed.
  • Assess the athletic team skills and abilities and the opponents capabilities and determine game strategies.
  • Follow the direction of both the school site and district Athletic Director.
  • Work effectively and maintain positive relations with all school and community stakeholders including parents.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
