About The Position

POSTING FOR UNMC EMPLOYEES ONLY The Assistant Director, Radiation Safety, will assist the Director, Radiation Safety, to oversee and manage the safe and compliant use of ionizing radiation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center ( UNMC ) and the University of Nebraska Omaha ( UNO ) in accordance with conditions of the UNMC Broadscope Radioactive Material license (Nebraska #01-50-01) and applicable x-ray registrations. In addition, the Assistant Director will assist the Director in the radiation safety duties stipulated in contractual agreements with UNMC’s teaching hospital, Nebraska Medicine, and the Nebraska/Western Iowa Health Care System VA ( NWIHCS ). The Assistant Director will serve as the Radiation Safety Officer ( RSO ) for the Nebraska Medicine radioactive material license (NE# 01-88-01) and Nebraska Medicine clinics with radioactive material licenses. The Assistant Director may potentially serve as an Assistant RSO for the UNMC Broadscope radioactive material license and the NWIHCS radioactive material permit. The position duties are broadly delineated in NRC NUREG -1556, Volumes 9 and 11. By developing and implementing policies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC , DOT , EPA , FDA , State of Nebraska), Radiation Safety supports UNMC’s efforts to be recognized as a center of excellence for teaching, medical services, and research.
