About The Position

Under the direction of EHS Director, the EHS Associate Director will be responsible for leading a team of environmental, health and safety professionals, providing technical and regulatory support and implementation of all necessary measures and initiatives required by federal, state and local regulations pertaining to environment and safety protection at the West Point site. Provides direction and is responsible for planning, developing and reviewing environmental, safety and industrial hygiene programs and providing direct customer support specific to our research and development activities and supporting operations at either a site or division level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor ’s Degree required (should have a concentration in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Physical Science or related technical discipline)
  • 10+ years in environmental protection and/or safety experience.
  • Evidence of leadership effective communication and organizational skills required.
  • Experience managing people, projects and/or teams is required.
  • Demonstrated performance in a highly regulated industry with strict standards adherence and compliance initiatives.
  • Good root cause investigation experience.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. is desirable.
  • Pharmaceutical experience desired.
  • Ability to attract talent & build a strong team
  • Proven experience leading a site program such as Manufacturing, Research, Tech Ops function, Quality or EHS Plant Leadership in pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
  • Strong systems and IT knowledge a plus
  • Masters/MBA; Relevant professional certification such as CSP, PE, CIH, CHMM, CQA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and implement EHS programs to assure continuous compliance with local, state and federal legislation, Company standards and industry best practices.
  • Investigate and mitigate risks across environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS&S) opportunities.
  • Ensure comprehensive change management of all EHS and Site initiatives to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and sustainable results across EHS projects and programs, EHS assessments and resulting action plans; ensure identified actions are completed in accordance with identified target dates.
  • Identify, coach and develop talent.
  • Manage the team of EHS Professionals and ensure their technical and leadership development.
  • Coach operations leaders to enable them to successfully discharge their leadership responsibilities for safety and environment.
  • Partner with West Point departments and contacts to integrate safety and environmental management systems into every phase of their operations, as measured by performance metrics.
  • Assure completion of required reports to site, divisional and/or corporate management and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage budgetary & capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programs.
  • Serve as interface with local governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.
  • Evaluate, with engineering departments, the requirements related to EHS applicability for new projects and processes as well as changes in the existing processes and installation.
