About The Position

The primary purpose of the Assistant Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer (DHO) is to assist the Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer in the management, direction, oversight and coordination of all functions pertaining to the disciplinary hearing processes within NC Division of Institutions. The Assistant Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer directs the disciplinary processes through continuous system analysis, review of federal and state court actions and opinions, and operational evaluations. In absence of the Chief DHO, the Asst. Chief DHO is the lead agency authority for offender disciplinary matters. This position directs processes and personnel within the Offender Disciplinary Section. This position is located in the East.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Applicants must have significant experience as an Offender Disciplinary Hearing Officer.
  • INTERNAL POSTING- This is an Internal Posting Open Only for Current North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Employees, and Eligible Sate Government Reduction in Force (RIF) Candidates from North Carolina State Government, or current temporary employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of divisional policies and procedures including the most current disciplinary procedures and classification processes.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Documented knowledge and use of the offender disciplinary process.
  • Documented knowledge of OPUS and use of classification and program actions.
  • Applicant has a minimum of two (2) years' experience in utilizing OPUS to document disciplinary hearing officer decisions.
