About The Position

Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Technology, Art & Design. The Department of Technology, Art & Design offers a variety of programs that span the application of technology, art and design in response to a range of human wants and needs. Courses nurture the development of individual creative expression, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Degree programs foster the development of knowledge and skills to design and develop creative solutions that address operations and future needs in an array of cultural, design, business, technological and industrial settings. Responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Professor of Technology, Art & Design include: Teach courses within our cross-disciplinary Technology, Art & Design curriculum. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses that include, but are not limited to Design Foundations, Drawing Foundations, Graphic Design, Exhibit & Experiential Design, Event Planning, Interactive Design, Design Software, and Integration of AI. Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, student advising, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties, including development of curricula, student travel and conferences. This is an on-campus, in-person position. Demonstrated ability to engage with AI tools critically and creatively without reliance on them as a substitute for core design thinking, and to implement teaching strategies that address appropriate, ethical, and pedagogically sound student use. Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University's signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.

Requirements

  • Earned Master’s Degree in Art or Design or closely-related field from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment.
  • Portfolio of relevant professional and personal work.
  • All applicants must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States at the time of an offer of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrable knowledge of current 2D and 3D Design Software.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience and/or 2+ years of experience in related industry.
  • Skills/ability to design and deliver online courses with Desire To Learn (D2L), or similar software.
  • Ability/desire to collaborate with current faculty to develop and teach new courses/subjects within our unique School of Technology, Art & Design.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
