The Department of Art at Vassar College invites applications for a one-year part-time position, to begin in the Fall of 2026, in Art History, with a specialization in the art and architecture of the Ancient Mediterranean world between the 3rd millennium BCE and 300 CE. We are particularly interested in candidates whose main field of research covers one or more of the following regions and periods: Bronze-Age Aegean civilizations; Egypt (the Dynastic, Ptolemaic, and/or Roman periods); Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant in the Bronze and Iron Ages; Classical Greece and Rome, and the Etruscan civilization. We encourage applications from scholars whose research and pedagogy embrace intersectional, interdisciplinary, and / or interregional approaches. This is an academic year position (benefits eligible). It entails teaching an intermediate-level course, an advanced seminar on a specialized topic in the ancient world, and contributing lectures and discussion sections in the team-taught art history survey course (the equivalent of 4 one-credit courses per year). The candidate will have the opportunity to implement the ancient art collection of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center in their teaching.
